Dishonest and Morally Flawed Arguments – 2A

Dear Minnesotans,

Guns are tools, not perpetrators. They don’t kill or commit violence—people do. The real issue lies with those who are unwell or unfit to handle them responsibly. Beware of anyone pushing intellectually dishonest or morally flawed arguments to sway your judgment. Minnesotans deserve better than that.

Minnesota’s SF1596 is a deeply flawed bill. Its sweeping ban on semiautomatic “military-style” firearms, weak grandfathering provisions, and restrictive transfer rules clash with the Second Amendment as upheld in Heller and Bruen. It targets weapons widely owned for lawful purposes, relying on vague, arbitrary features rather than addressing real issues. There’s no clear historical basis for this kind of prohibition—something courts will demand. Worse, it flirts with an unconstitutional “taking” of property.

This bill is ripe for a legal challenge, and with the U.S. Supreme Court’s 6-3 originalist majority, it could easily be struck down. Minnesota must show a Founding-era precedent to justify it—a tall order that seems doomed to fail. SF1596’s future likely rests in judicial hands, not legislative ones.

I’m running for Governor in 2026 to protect your rights and bring common sense back to our state. Let’s focus on people, not politics.

Sincerely,
Phillip C. Parrish
