Parrish, candidate for Governor of Minnesota in 2026, today addressed the economic ripple effects of new federal tariffs—effective April 2025—including a 10% baseline on all imports and steeper reciprocal rates targeting nations like Canada and China. While acknowledging the immediate pressures on Minnesota’s farmers, manufacturers, and energy consumers, Parrish outlined a forward-thinking plan to transform these challenges into lasting gains, with a bold emphasis on nuclear energy as a cornerstone for the state’s future.

- Supporting Farmers: Aggressively expand export markets in Europe and Asia, reducing dependence on unpredictable trade with Canada and China, to secure stable incomes for soybean, corn, and livestock producers.
- Boosting Manufacturing: Provide tax incentives and grants for companies like Polaris to shift to local sourcing, cutting costs, boosting competitiveness, and creating high-quality jobs.
- Securing Energy: We will shift away from outdated, heavily subsidized technologies like wind mills and solar panels, which rely on inconsistent output and vast land use, toward promising, next-generation solutions. Instead, we will invest in cutting-edge innovations such as small modular reactors (SMRs) and advanced nuclear power, which offer reliable, low-cost, and scalable energy with a fraction of the environmental footprint. This transition will reduce Minnesota’s dependence on tariff-burdened Canadian energy imports, bolster energy independence, and position the state as a pioneer in sustainable, high-efficiency technology. Subsidies for unviable legacy systems will be phased out, redirecting resources to future-focused energy infrastructure that delivers real results for Minnesotans.
- Empowering Workers: Expand workforce training programs tailored to emerging industries, including mining and advanced energy, ensuring Iron Range steelworkers and others benefit from tariff-driven growth.
