Unveiling the Truth: Courageously Investigating Chemical Links to Autism in Minnesota

Statement by Phillip C. Parrish, Candidate for Governor of Minnesota 2026

As a candidate for Governor of Minnesota in 2026, I stand for bold leadership and the courage to ask tough questions, even when they challenge powerful interests. The potential link between hormonal chemicals, synthetic compounds, and the rising prevalence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in our state—now affecting 1 in 28 children—demands urgent, transparent investigation. Research suggests that chemicals like phthalates, BPA, and pesticides may contribute to ASD risk, yet economic and political pressures from chemical manufacturers, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders could be stifling critical studies. Minnesotans deserve answers, not silence.

I commend efforts to explore environmental factors, as raised by Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., despite his controversial framing. However, I strongly criticize Secretary of State Steve Simon’s dismissive rebuttal, which labeled these concerns “stunningly ignorant” without engaging the science or addressing systemic barriers to research. Simon’s response is an easy way out, sidestepping the hard work of confronting uncomfortable truths. His refusal to call for independent, well-funded research raises questions about whether his financial contributors—potentially tied to industries profiting from these chemicals—influence his stance. Minnesota families deserve a leader who prioritizes their health over corporate interests.

As Governor, I will champion transparent, evidence-based research into ASD’s environmental causes, free from industry bias. We must protect our children and empower our communities with the truth, no matter how inconvenient it is to the powerful. Let us have the courage to question, investigate, and act—because Minnesotans deserve nothing less.
