From the heart of a U.S. Navy combat veteran and intelligence officer, forged in the fires of duty, sacrifice, and unyielding resolve, comes this poem—a timeless message to my children and yours, urging the raising of resilient men and women equipped to confront evil, embrace failure and success, and never surrender, yield, or grow complacent in life’s relentless battles.
Forged in Fire: A Warrior’s Legacy
In the forge of fire, I stand unbowed,
A warrior etched by storm and strife,
Veteran of seas where shadows prowled,
Intelligence honed on the edge of life.
To my sons and daughters, hear this vow:
No shield from trials, no easy path laid,
For evil lurks, with cunning brow,
And complacency is the coward’s trade.
Rise with the ethos of the steadfast guard,
Prepared in peace, unyielding in war,
Face failure’s bite, claim success hard-won,
Never surrender, never falter more.
Equip your souls with skill and fire,
Defend the weak, confront the night,
In good times train, in bad inspire—
Become the light that pierces fright.
There is no shortcut to the guardians you’ll be,
Forged in the flames that tempered me.

As a U.S. Navy combat veteran and intelligence officer, I’ve walked the razor’s edge of conflict, where life’s harshest lessons are forged in the crucible of duty, sacrifice, and unyielding resolve. Through years of service, I’ve witnessed the unfiltered face of evil—those who prey on the unprepared, exploiting vulnerability to manipulate, steal, and destroy. My own journey, marked by failures that tested my spirit and successes hard-earned through perseverance, taught me that true strength isn’t born from ease but from facing adversity head-on. It’s this ethos that compelled me to pen my original reflections on January 28, 2021: a heartfelt plea to my children, emphasizing that there are no shortcuts to becoming the men and women of character they admire in me. I once prayed they’d be spared the scars of my path—the battles, the tears, the moral trials—but I came to realize that shielding them would only leave them defenseless against the inevitable storms of life. Instead, we must equip the next generation with knowledge, skills, and unshakeable faith in God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, preparing them to defend themselves and the vulnerable, to never surrender, never yield, and never grow complacent. This poem, “Forged in Fire: A Warrior’s Legacy,” distills that enduring message, a testament to the warrior’s unbowed spirit and the sacred duty of passing on resilience in good times and bad.
