Statement from Phillip C. Parrish, Candidate for Governor of Minnesota
August 25, 2025
As a retired U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander with 21 years of service in intelligence and counterterrorism, and as a proud Minnesotan running for Governor in 2026, I have dedicated my life to protecting our nation and its values from threats both foreign and domestic. Today, on August 25, 2025, I am compelled to speak out against the disgraceful rhetoric displayed by Governor Tim Walz during his speech at the DNC summer meeting in Minneapolis. His words were not those of a leader seeking to unite or heal our state after a devastating national election loss—they were grotesque, dishonest, and riddled with projection, utterly unbecoming of the office he holds and the trust Minnesotans once placed in him.
Governor Walz’s mocking imitation of Republicans as simple-minded hat-wearers obsessed with “cruelty” and “fascism” is nothing short of unhinged theater, reducing serious policy debates to childish caricatures while ignoring the real failures of his own administration. This is the same man who has presided over obscene financial mismanagement, including a massive COVID-19 fraud scandal that wasted millions in taxpayer dollars under his watch. He accuses others of cruelty, yet his progressive overreach has driven up taxes, ballooned a looming budget deficit, and contributed to the DFL’s loss of control over the Minnesota Legislature—leaving our state in fiscal ruin and our communities struggling with rising costs and unchecked crime. Minnesotans deserve better than a governor who projects his own authoritarian tendencies—such as heavy-handed COVID policies and ideological mandates—onto his opponents while claiming the moral high ground.
Walz’s dishonesty is equally appalling. He defends DEI initiatives as untouchable while omitting their proven inefficiencies and the merit-based reforms sought by many, including recent executive actions at the federal level. His history of embellishments, from military service claims to policy exaggerations, erodes public trust and exemplifies the intellectual and moral bankruptcy of his leadership. And let’s be clear: Governor Walz has not just failed Minnesota—he has destroyed the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party from within. Under his tenure, the DFL has become polarized and fractured, with internal crises like the revocation of endorsements and a quiet scramble over his wavering commitment to a third term, all amid sinking fortunes post-2024 election. His radical policies have alienated moderate voters, leading to a 30% drop in fundraising and plunging polls that threaten the party’s very relevance in our state.
This conduct is unbecoming of any public servant, let alone the Governor of Minnesota. It fosters division when we need unity, lies when we demand truth, and projects failure onto others while refusing accountability for his own ruinous record. As your next Governor, I pledge to restore integrity, fiscal responsibility, and servant leadership to St. Paul—focusing on the hardworking poor, ending fraud, and rebuilding a Minnesota that works for all. Governor Walz, it’s time to step aside and let real leaders heal the damage you’ve done.
