ST. PAUL, MN – Keith Ellison just tweeted a victory lap so slick you’d think he personally air-dropped ribeyes to every EBT card in Minnesota. Channel 5’s KSTP ran the chyron like a late-night infomercial: “UNCERTAIN FUTURE FOR SNAP BENEFITS” – complete with sad violin stock footage of empty veggie aisles.
What they didn’t show you is the rest of the story.
And the rest of the story is a quarter-billion-dollar crime scene Ellison helped wallpaper over while the cameras rolled.
1. The “Victory” That Isn’t
Ellison’s office crowed about a federal judge forcing USDA to keep full SNAP payouts flowing for now.
Translation: A temporary stay on a clawback order that could gut next month’s benefits once the feds finish counting how many phantom kids “ate” 18,000 ghost meals a day.
KSTP forgot to mention:
• USDA is already prepping repayment demands to states that overpaid.
• Minnesota’s cut of the Feeding Our Future fraud alone? $250 MILLION+ – gone.
• That money bought Lambo leases, condos in Kenya, and mall sprees in Addis Ababa while actual Minnesota families got IOUs.
2. Where Was Keith When the Cash Vanished?
Ellison’s AG office had full oversight authority over nonprofit compliance.
Instead of audits, they handed out “Get Out of Jail Free” cards to DFL-adjacent grifters.
Real receipts:
• Empire Cuisine LLC claimed 1.8 million meals served from a single duplex basement.
• Safari Restaurant “fed” 5,000 kids a day – more than the entire St. Paul school district.
• ThinkTechAct Foundation wired $2.1 M to Ethiopia the same week they got reimbursed for “summer learning meals.”
Ellison’s response? Crickets.
Until the FBI kicked in doors and the U.S. Attorney started indicting.
Now he sues Trump to keep the spigot open. Heroic.
3. KSTP’s Role: Useful Idiots or Paid Stenographers?
Channel 5 aired Ellison’s infomercial without a single follow-up question.
No mention of:
• The 67 indictments still pending.
• The $48 million in untraceable wire transfers to Dubai.
• The DFL donor who funneled $1.2 M through a “youth empowerment” nonprofit that never filed a tax return.
They gave Keith a softball spotlight while real Minnesotans dig through couch cushions for formula.
This isn’t journalism. It’s access laundering.
4. The Human Cost (That Nobody on Camera Mentions)
• Single mom in Duluth: EBT short $180 this month because the fraud pool is drained.
• Veteran in Rochester: Food pantry line wrapped around the block – same week another “nonprofit CEO” posts Dubai selfies.
