Statement from Phillip C. Parrish, Candidate for Governor of Minnesota
June 26, 2025

“Senator Amy Klobuchar’s recent statements regarding the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act’ are not only factually incorrect but also deeply harmful to the very people she claims to champion. Her narrative of a ‘Big Beautiful Betrayal’ is a deliberate distortion of the truth, designed to mislead Minnesotans and undermine critical reforms that would benefit our state and its citizens.
Let me set the record straight. The ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act’ does not ‘take food away from millions of families,’ as Klobuchar falsely claims. Instead, it reforms the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to ensure that assistance is directed to those who truly need it, while maintaining exemptions for seniors, disabled individuals, parents of young children, veterans, and the homeless. This is not a betrayal; it is a responsible approach to stewardship of taxpayer dollars and a commitment to accountability [H.R.1, Section 10002, Page 18, Line 23 and Section 10008, Page 25, Line 1].
Klobuchar’s assertion that the bill ‘blows a hole in state budgets’ is equally baseless. The legislation includes measures to verify citizenship for Medicaid benefits and expects able-bodied adults to work, study, or volunteer—common-sense steps that enhance program integrity and ensure that resources are used efficiently [H.R.1, Section 44110, Page 804, Line 10 and Section 44141, Page 818, Line 1]. If Klobuchar is concerned about state budgets, perhaps she should focus on addressing the fraud, waste, and abuse that have plagued these programs under her watch, rather than spreading misinformation.
Her feigned concern for independent grocers is particularly disingenuous. The bill actually increases commodity reference prices for farmers, directly benefiting agricultural communities and strengthening the food supply chain [H.R.1, Section 10101, Pages 28-30]. This is a win for Minnesota’s farmers and rural economies, yet Klobuchar chooses to ignore these facts in favor of a narrative that serves her political interests.
Moreover, Klobuchar’s opposition to work requirements for able-bodied adults aged 18-65 is a slap in the face to hardworking Minnesotans who expect fairness and accountability from their government. Expecting individuals capable of contributing to society to do so is not radical; it is a fundamental principle of a just and equitable system [H.R.1, Section 10002, Page 18, Line 23].
The truth is, when Americans learn the details of this bill—permanent tax cuts for working families, exclusion of tips and overtime from taxation, expanded Child Tax Credits, and car loan interest deductions—they support it overwhelmingly [H.R.1, Sections 110101-110102, Page 972; Section 110004, Page 962, Line 6; Section 110104, Page 972, Line 25]. Klobuchar’s refusal to acknowledge these benefits reveals her true priorities: maintaining a status quo that benefits the political elite at the expense of ordinary Minnesotans.
As a candidate for Governor, I am committed to ending the cycle of misinformation and deceit that has characterized too much of our political discourse. Minnesotans deserve leaders who tell the truth, who prioritize their needs, and who work tirelessly to restore integrity to our government. Senator Klobuchar’s false narratives are not just tolerated; they are harmful to the very people she claims to support. It is time for a change, and I am ready to lead that change.
Thank you.”
