Unmasking the Hypocrisy: How Amy Klobuchar’s False Narratives on the OBBB Threaten Minnesota’s Trust – A Call from Candidate Phillip C. Parrish

Statement from Phillip C. Parrish, Candidate for Governor of Minnesota 2026

For Immediate Release: June 25, 2025

Fellow Minnesotans,

As a candidate for Governor in 2026, I am deeply concerned by Senator Amy Klobuchar’s latest attack on the “One Big Beautiful Bill” (OBBB), posted on June 24, 2025. Her claims—that this bill takes health care from 16 million people, raises grocery costs, increases the debt by $3.4 trillion, and gives the wealthy a $400K tax break—are not only misleading but expose a troubling hypocrisy that undermines the trust of our citizens. It’s time to call out this pattern of dishonesty and the harm it inflicts by manipulating public opinion with false narratives.

Senator Klobuchar has the audacity to cry foul over health care cuts, yet she championed the Affordable Care Act, which led to millions losing employer-sponsored plans—2.6 million by some estimates in 2016 alone—while staying silent on those losses. Now, she twists the OBBB’s work requirements for Medicaid, which include exemptions for pregnant women, veterans, and caregivers, into a fabricated loss of 16 million lives. This is not truth; it’s a distortion designed to stoke fear. Her past support for Biden’s $1.9 trillion spending spree, which ballooned our national debt, further exposes her selective outrage over the OBBB’s alleged $3.4 trillion impact—a figure that ignores savings from waste reduction she refuses to back.

Her claim that the bill raises grocery costs is equally baseless. As a senator from our agricultural heartland, Klobuchar has long supported farm subsidies, yet she now condemns the OBBB’s price supports—raising wheat to $6.35, corn to $4.10, and soybeans to $10.00—without evidence they’ll hurt consumers. This flip-flop reeks of political convenience. And on tax breaks, she vilifies a $400K benefit for the wealthy while ignoring that working families earning $20,000-$30,000 get the largest percentage cut at 13.5%. Her past support for SALT deductions, which favored high earners, contradicts her current narrative—pure hypocrisy.

This isn’t just about policy disagreement; it’s about a dangerous reliance on false narratives to control Minnesotans’ perceptions. By exaggerating cuts and omitting context, Klobuchar sows division and erodes our ability to have honest debates. False narratives manipulate emotions, skew public trust, and distract from real issues—like the economic struggles our farmers and workers face daily. As governor, I will fight for transparency, not fearmongering, ensuring every Minnesotan has access to the full story, not just a partisan spin.
I urge Senator Klobuchar to stop this cycle of dishonesty, read the bill’s text, and address its benefits alongside its challenges. Minnesotans deserve better than being pawns in a game of political theater. Together, let’s build a future based on truth and accountability.

Sincerely,
Phillip C. Parrish
Candidate for Governor of Minnesota 2026
