Titled something along the lines of highlighting Minnesota as the “land of 10,000 scams,” Bennett’s article does a commendable job of exposing the rampant fraud in state programs like Human Services (HSS), Feeding Our Future, autism centers, and child care assistance. She rightly points out the state’s abysmal oversight, the ignored warnings from whistleblowers dating back to 2015, and the leadership failures under Governor Tim Walz that have resulted in over $1 billion in taxpayer losses. Bennett nails the core betrayal: these schemes exploit the vulnerable—children, the elderly, and low-income families—while enriching white-collar criminals who game the system with little fear of repercussion.
The piece calls for real accountability, such as establishing an independent Inspector General to root out corruption, and emphasizes how Minnesota’s reputation as a “nice” state has been weaponized by scammers.
