Erin Murphy’s “Rare Admission” Is Just More Smoke from the Machine

DFL Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy just let slip what so many Minnesotans have known for years: Governor Tim Walz could have been “more decisive” in stopping the fraud that’s been looting our social service programs.

“Could he have done something sooner? Yes,” Murphy said in a recent interview. Then came the predictable pivot: “Everybody’s got a hand in this. We all have a hand in fixing this.”

That’s not accountability — that’s the same tired deflection loop we’ve heard for years from the insiders protecting the racket.

While Murphy and her colleagues pat themselves on the back for new task forces and inspector generals, the real world looks like this: Just this week, the ringleader in an $11 million Medicaid fraud scheme skipped his court date, forfeited his $150,000 bond, and is now on the run with a nationwide warrant out for him. Taxpayers are out millions more, and the grift continues.

At the same time, the Department of Employment and Economic Development admitted that fraudsters swarmed their $100 million small business grant program — 76 suspicious applications flagged to the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, with some money already clawed back.

This isn’t “everybody’s hand.” This is years of willful blindness, ignored whistleblowers, and a political culture that treated hardworking Minnesotans’ tax dollars like an open ATM for networks that prey on the vulnerable.

Whether the name is Walz, Murphy, or any other elected official in St. Paul, the script is always the same: Admit a sliver of the problem when the heat gets too high, spread the blame, roll out another “fraud prevention” announcement, and hope the public forgets until the next scandal drops.

Minnesotans are tired of the closed loop. We don’t need more shared responsibility talk. We need leaders with the courage to name the networks, seize the assets, fire the enablers, protect the whistleblowers who risked everything to sound the alarm, and deliver real forensic audits across every agency and nonprofit that’s been feeding at the public trough.

This fight isn’t about party labels. It’s about restoring integrity to the constitutional republic our founders designed — a Minnesota where honest work is honored, families can provide for their households without feeding the syndicate, and public servants actually serve the people instead of shielding the grift.

The question for every legislator right now — DFL, Republican, or independent — is straightforward: Are you still running defense for the racket, or are you finally ready to help dismantle it root and branch?

The people of Minnesota are watching. Those brave enough to choose the side of truth, justice, and protecting the innocent will have a partner in this fight. Those who keep recycling the same excuses will be exposed.

As a follower of Jesus Christ, I believe we are called to speak truth to power, defend the vulnerable, and steward resources with righteousness. Enough with the smoke. It’s time for real light — and real consequences.
