By Phillip C. Parrish, Republican Candidate for Governor of Minnesota 2026
October 27, 2025
Dear Fellow Minnesotans,
As I’ve traveled across our state, speaking at over 100 events in the past ten months, I’ve seen a hunger for real change—a Minnesota free from the lies, half-truths, and manipulative narratives that politicians and their puppeteers spin for power and control. In my recent article, “A Call to Unite and Restore Minnesota,” I shared my vision for a united, transparent future. Today, I’m compelled to address a darker truth: the insidious ways candidates get compromised during campaigns, pulled into a web of gatekeepers, financiers, and grifters who erode their independence and betray you, the taxpayers. As your candidate for Governor in 2026, I’m setting myself apart by refusing to play this game, and I’m calling on my competitors to resist it too—for the sake of our state and the people we serve.
The Compromise Trap: How Candidates Lose Their Way
The political machine thrives on compromise. Some candidates start as plants—pre-selected by elites, already beholden to big donors or party insiders before their campaign even begins. Others start with good intentions but get ensnared after launch, lured by the promise of a “winning formula” that demands allegiance to financiers and gatekeepers. These puppeteers weave a web of narratives—identity politics, cherry-picked data, or fear-driven talking points—that trap candidates in a cycle of dependency. Once in, it’s hard to break free.
Then there’s the financial trap. Some candidates, desperate to compete, pour their own money into campaigns, often beyond what’s sustainable. This personal financial instability makes them vulnerable to donors who swoop in with cash and conditions. I’ve seen competitors in this race showing signs of this—pumping personal or donor funds into campaigns, only to shuffle them out after reporting periods to inflate “activity” while hiding liabilities. It’s a shell game, and it’s not new. Federal and state campaign finance reports reveal candidates passing funds through accounts to create an illusion of momentum, but it’s a liability that binds them to the wrong masters. Minnesotans deserve better than leaders who owe their loyalty to a handful of elites rather than you.
Setting Myself Apart: Independence and Integrity
I refuse to fall into this trap, and my campaign proves it. Unlike my competitors, I’m not chasing big donors or risking personal financial ruin. My wife and I have made deliberate choices to ensure our financial stability, so I’m free from the pressures that compromise others. I don’t need to make promises to wealthy financiers or seek their approval on policy decisions. My obligation is solely to you—the moms and dads, the hardworking poor and middle class. Here’s what my approach brings to the table:
• Self-Financed Efficiency: I design my own website, create my own content, and produce my own messaging—tasks that typically cost candidates tens of thousands of dollars. A lesser candidate would need to hire a web developer ($5,000-$15,000), a content strategist ($10,000-$20,000 annually), and a media firm for videos and ads ($20,000-$50,000 per cycle). My expertise saves taxpayers this bloat, delivering value directly to you.
• Volunteer-Driven Campaign: My campaign manager and strategists are volunteers, driven by shared values, not paychecks. Competitors often pay $5,000-$15,000 monthly for campaign staff, racking up debts that force reliance on big donors. My lean model keeps me independent.
• Unique Expertise: My background as a Navy intelligence officer, whistleblower, farmer, teacher, and administrator gives me unmatched insight into investigations, finance, budget planning, and state and national law. Duplicating this would require hiring consultants at $200-$500 per hour, costing $50,000-$100,000 over a campaign. I bring this knowledge directly, free of charge.
• No Donor Strings: Unlike competitors who may promise policy favors to secure big checks, I’m funded by grassroots supporters—everyday Minnesotans like you. This ensures my policies, like those outlined in my school choice plan, serve taxpayers, not elites.
To replicate my model, a lesser candidate would need $100,000-$200,000 just to cover the expertise and services I provide myself. But money doesn’t buy integrity. Grifters and “experts” often talk candidates into bloated campaigns, promising media polish or marketing magic. Why? Because it enriches them while compromising the candidate’s independence. I’d rather keep my campaign lean and my principles intact, staying in a position to say “no” to anyone who tries to buy influence. As a popular meme puts it, “Keep yourself in a position to say ‘F-you’ to those who’d compromise your values.” That’s my pledge—to remain steadfast for you, the people of Minnesota.
A Warning to My Competitors: Don’t Fall for the Game
To my fellow candidates, I offer both encouragement and caution. I’ve seen the signs—vague statements lacking substance, questionable fundraising tactics, and a rush to play the money game. Some of you are already dipping into personal funds or passing money through accounts to fake momentum, creating liabilities that make you vulnerable to elite control. As I noted in my budget truth article, both parties have spun narratives for power, and I’m concerned that impatience could lead you to repeat these mistakes—chasing big donors or identity politics to seem “electable.” This is a losing path. Minnesotans see through it. They’re not naive; they reject disingenuous scripts.
You still have time to break free or avoid the trap altogether. Focus on substance—clear, honest policies that serve all Minnesotans. Don’t let gatekeepers or financiers dictate your message. If you’re already compromised, pivot now: be transparent about your funding, reject donor-driven promises, and rebuild trust with voters. The Republican Party is waking up to this, with BPOU chairs and leaders rejecting elite gatekeeping, as I wrote in my call to unite. Join this movement for integrity, and let’s run a race that honors our shared values.
A Stark Warning: Don’t Lie to Me or Minnesotans
To all candidates, pundits, and party leaders, hear this: Do not lie to me, do not lie in front of me, and do not make false statements at speaking engagements or governor forums that force me to confront you publicly. I take this race seriously because Minnesota’s future is at stake. As a whistleblower who’s exposed fraud and waste—like the $250 million Feeding Our Future scandal and billions lost to mismanaged housing programs—I know the games insiders play. I’ve called out both Democrats and Republicans for spinning narratives, as detailed in my budget article. If you betray Minnesotans with lies or compromised promises, you’re not just my opponent—you’re an enemy of the people we serve. Let’s compete with truth, not deception.
Why the Elites Fear Me
The professional political organizations and elite gatekeepers don’t like me because I see through their playbook. They thrive on candidates who need their money, their “experts,” and their approval. I don’t. My self-financed, expertise-driven campaign threatens their control. They can’t buy me, and they can’t scare me. My commitment is to you—the taxpayers, the hardworking families, the forgotten middle class. With me, you get a governor who answers to you, not a donor list.
A Call to Action: Unity and Truth for Minnesota
Minnesotans, this is our moment to break the cycle of compromised politics. My campaign is proof that you don’t need big money or elite approval to fight for what’s right. I’m calling on you to join me in demanding integrity from every candidate. To my competitors, I urge you to run clean, stay independent, and put Minnesotans first. Together, we can reject the puppeteers and build a state where truth and opportunity prevail.
